Admission to School and Nursery

St Mary's CE Primary School seeks to reach out to the whole community and therefore offers 80% of all its places based on distance from school. St. Mary's School usually admits pupils from the Park Road and Wellfield Schools catchment area and sometimes further away, especially where the family has a faith background (please see our admissions policy). Applications to primary school are given equal preference by Trafford admissions and therefore an application to this school does not prejudice gaining a place at a 'catchment' school. St. Mary's does not have a catchment, as defined by the Local Authority, as St. Mary's School is a VA (voluntary aided) school and determines its own admissions arrangements.

St Mary’s is an Anglican School and the education it provides is in conformity with the rites, practices and doctrines of the Church of England. Parents should be aware that in this School, RE, collective worship and our whole ethos are based on the teachings of the Church of England.

Admission into Nursery

Children are eligible for admission into the Nursery in the term following their third birthday. The School maintains an Enquiry Register and parents are invited to register their child’s information with the school. Information Packs, which include a copy of the Nursery Admissions Policy and Nursery Application Form, are sent out prior to their admission. Offers of a Nursery place are made by the School. Attending our nursery gives your child the best possible start and smooth transition into the school's Reception class. The Nursery Admissions Policy and Nursery Application Form are available to download.

Admission into Reception Class

Children are admitted into the Reception class in the academic year in which they attain their fifth birthday. Admissions are administered under the Trafford Co-ordinated Admissions Scheme and parents are required to complete a Trafford Primary Application Form. Parents should indicate their schools in order of preference. This means you should put your favourite school first, your next favourite school second and so on through your preferences. It is best if parents include a 'catchment' school. Trafford will allocate a place at the school you have ranked highest where a place can be offered. This means that if your first choice is St. Mary's and we can offer you a place you will be offered St. Mary's. Where St. Mary's is unable to offer a place, Trafford will offer a place at one of your other schools as indicated on the application form. The principle of 'equal preference' means that you would still have the same chance of gaining a place at a school lower down your list than if you had placed it as your favourite or first choice school. Schools do not know the preference parents have indicated and so has no bearing on whether or not a place may be offered.  The School also maintains an Enquiry Register and parents are invited to register their child’s information with the school. Information Packs,  which include a copy of the School Admissions Policy and School Supplementary Form, are sent out in the academic year prior to admission.  The Published Admission Number (PAN) for the Reception intake is 30.  The School Admissions Policy and School Supplementary Form are available to download.

In Year Admission to School

In Year admissions are administered by the school. Initially, parents interested in a school complete the 'Admission Enquiry Form' below and return to school.
